S&C Electric Company Honored as One of Chicago’s 2019 Top Workplaces

Smart Grid Leader Named 10th Best Workplace in Chicago Tribune’s 10th Annual Report

CHICAGO, November 8, 2019 – Today, S&C Electric Company (S&C), a global leader in improving power reliability and delivery worldwide, has been named the 10th best place to work among large employers in the Chicagoland area by The Chicago Tribune as part of the newspaper’s prestigious annual Top Workplaces list.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be named one of the top workplaces in a city filled with many incredible organizations across myriad industries,” said Kyle Seymour, S&C president and CEO. “As an employee-owned manufacturer with a presence in Chicago for more than 100 years, this recognition is a testament to our diverse team members, the fantastic culture they have cultivated, and the valuable work they are doing for the power industry.”

Located in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, S&C is the city’s second-largest manufacturer. The company employs 2,000 team members at its Chicago location and more than 3,000 team members worldwide. S&C prides itself on designing and manufacturing utility-scale electric-grid equipment that helps keep the lights on around the world.

Now in its 10th year, The Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces list rewards the novel ways companies and their managers are engaging, motivating, and rewarding team members while also exploring how organizations create and sustain a positive and productive culture. S&C was honored by being named the 10th best large employer out of the 30 large employers recognized. The full list, which includes 150 organizations from throughout Chicago, covers a wide range of industries.

To qualify for The Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces list, a company must have at least 100 employees in the Chicago area. Upon nomination, companies distribute confidential surveys to their employees, the results of which help the Tribune’s research partner, Energage, calculate the list of top workplaces.

“Knowing the Top Workplace designation is determined by the input of our S&C team members is something to celebrate and gives us an even greater feeling of pride,” said Aurelie Richard, S&C chief human development and strategy officer. “A unique workplace such as ours is committed to keeping our team engaged and motivated daily. This award illustrates that we have developed a truly special, inclusive culture.”
